The 7th grade music class, of St. Edward Public School,  has started a new chapter this year in studying the world of the Ukulele.  We were fortunate to have Gorton Smith from Las Cruces, New Mexico visit our classroom on Friday, August 16, 2019 and give us insight on the Ukulele.  Gorton is a huge fan of ukuleles and helps organize the National New Mexico Ukulele Festival each year.
Gorton taught us that ukulele is a Hawaiian word, and is correctly pronounced, “oo koo lay lay.”  He taught us two chords and how to strum, as he shared his love for the ukulele.
